Brussels just slapped Google with a billion-dollar reality check
It looks like Google forgot that Europe has rules, and now they’re paying a massive price for playing favorites with their own search results.
So, the European Commission decided Google was getting a bit too comfortable at the top. They found that the search giant was basically nudging its own shopping and travel tools to the front of the line while burying everyone else.
It doesn't stop there. Google Play was apparently making it impossible for app developers to tell users they could actually find cheaper deals elsewhere. The regulators basically said, innovation shouldn't die just because you own the playground.
Of course, Google's legal team is screaming that this is just going to ruin the product for everyone. Meanwhile, everyone is waiting to see how Donald Trump reacts, given he's already threatening to hit Europe with new tariffs over this kind of thing. It's almost cute how they think a billion dollars is going to change the behavior of a company that prints over a hundred billion in profit every few months.
